Herbal medicine is a major component of traditional Chinese Medicine and has been used for over 3000 years. Before pharmaceuticals (and even the use of acupuncture needles), herbal remedies were used to heal and balance the human body. Chinese herbal medicine uses hundreds of plants and a few animal products*, each with specific functions to restore balance to the body.
Chinese herbs have shown their effectiveness under the scrutiny of both empirical study and modern clinical trials. These herbs can be used to augment the treatment of a particular imbalance, working together or sometimes in place of acupuncture and other medicines. Chinese herbs are based on the same theories as acupuncture, and allow your therapy to continue when you are away from the clinic.
Unlike most pharmaceuticals, herbal prescriptions in Chinese Medicine are tailor-made for the individual and his/her specific patterns of imbalance. This results in fewer side effects and a more wholistic result.
In Dr. Odell’s practice, herbs are administered in various forms including raw herbs, pills, powders, teas, and tinctures. Great care is taken in selecting the form of herb that assures maximum results and best matches the patient's lifestyle.
As an environmentally concerned practitioner, Dr. Odell strives to maintain an ecologically healthy practice by not using those products that cause unnecessary harm to any animal, or using products from animals that are endangered. If you are a vegetarian or prefer not to use any animal-based medicines, please inform us and we will abide by those wishes.
